Some independent studies/seminars, which have been offered toward the Theater Minor, have included the following: Shakespearean Production, Shakespearean Directing, Playwriting, Advanced Acting in Style, American Musical Theater, Costume Design & Construction,  Children's Theater, Creative Dramatics, Drama Ministry, Drama as an Educational and Therapeutic Tool, Theater History,  Lighting Design, Acting for the Camera, and Screenwriting. At least one major theater production and many smaller performances are produced each year at UMHB. (UMHB students also have many opportunities to audition on campus and off for many types of plays and musical theater productions with campus organizations, other academic departments, and off campus organizations). The UMHB Theater Program collaborates with other colleges and community theater organizations  to produce plays, musicals, and outdoor Shakespearean productions. Further, it participates in other regional performance projects with educational programs and civic organizations. Class credit is available for these projects with course instructors' approvals. Students can transfer in some theater courses. All transferred courses are transferred in as lower level courses. Thirty-six upper division courses are required.
