Storytelling

Course Objective: The primary objective of this course is to enable each student to improve in his or her demonstration of effective storytelling techniques and in his or her articulation of the elements of good stories in the contexts addressed in this course.

Grading: One-half of the final grade in this class is be determined by performance of stories in assigned categories and class participation in daily class activities. One letter grade is to be deducted from the grade for an assignment each day that the performance or assignments is late, unless an excuse is brought in from an authoritative source. One fourth of the final grade is to be based on the mid-term examination and the final examination. The final fourth of the grade is to be based on the assigned paper.

Attendance and Participation: Roll is to be taken each class period. Students are to be graded each class period on participation and class assignments.

Requirements:  The student is to read hand-outs and to participate in class discussions. The student is to write a 6-8 page paper on a storytelling subject related to his or her career goals.

  • Elements of Great Stories and Acting in Film
  • Rehearsals of Scenes from Great Film Stories
  • Performance of Scenes from Great Film Scripts
  • Mid-Term Examination
  • Elements of Great Stories and Acting for the Stage
  • Rehearsals of Scenes from Great Stage Stories, Second Draft of Paper Due
  • Performance of Scenes from Great Stage Stories
  • Elements of Good Stories for Print Journalism
  • Elements of Good Stories for Public Relations & Marketing
