| Purpose of the Course- Students will participate in a dramatic production. Students will have the opportunity to audition for a role or may participate in technical crews who are to work on make-up, costumes, props, sets, and/or lighting. |
| Grading- 25% -class (workshop)
attendance, 25% class projects/assignments, 50%- hands-on/involvement, approved dramatic activity project. |
| Course Content- Students are to receive basic instruction in designing make-up, costumes, props, sets, and lighting. Students are to be given technical theater, design assignments. |
| Learning Objectives: Students will demonstrate technical theater skills. Students will attend technical theater workshops in Brindley Auditorium. Student will be able to discuss factors to consider in designing costumes, make-up, lighting, props, and sets. Students will be able to line and shade drawings for straight, middle age, and old age make-up. Students will be able to identify standard lighting and set terminology. |
| Class Log- Each class member is to keep
a log of hours invested in this course. Dramatic Activity is a laboratory class.
Therefore, each student in this course must invest 1 ½ hours for every hour that he or
she would invest in a lecture class. If a Dramatic Activity student is earning 1
semester hour credit, he or she must invest 23 hours in Dramatic Activity
coursework by the end of the semester. If a Dramatic Activity student is earning 2
semester hour credits, he or she must invest 45 hours by the end of the
semester. If a student is earning 3 semester hour credits, he or she must invest 68
hours. If a student is earning 4 semester hour credits, he or she must invest 90 hours. |
| Class Projects: All projects will be based on the dramatic production scheduled for this semester or assigned play. 1. Set Painting 2. Lighting Design 3. Costume Design 4. Makeup DesignDesign the make-up for a middle-aged woman and for a middle-aged or old man. Use the face in the handout as a template and color accordingly. Indicate all base, highlights, special colors and techniques used to achieve the effects of the make up design. Quality of the artwork is not part of the grade, however neatness, presentation and your overall efforts can have an impact on your grade. List all references. Note: If the project is late, it will affect your grade.
