To Whom This May Concern:

Christine Pointer has been my student, during the past two years, in courses and university projects. I have observed her exceptional ability as a performer, communicator, writer, and journalist. She has demonstrated wonderful talent as Performance Studies major with a minor in Mass Communication and special studies in music. Christine is a self-starter, who has displayed a great deal of personal initiative, hard work, perseverance, determination, and good judgement. She has consistently demonstrated leadership ability, but she has likewise displayed a gracious and cooperative team spirit in working with her peers.  She committed to Christian ministry, as can be seen in her work on the Christian television station, KPLE, in Killeen, TX.

She has been active as a performer of music, poetry, and drama for stage, television, and educational videoconferencing.  In   performance research work, she has performed African American poetry via the BellNet videoconferencing system. She writes, produces, and  performs solo, autobiographical stories of such figures as Dorothy Dandridge and Josephine Baker for onsite and distance performances. She is a dynamic and beautiful performer/singer. She has gained broad television, virtual  performance, and communication technology experience.

Ms. Pointer presented with me at the International  NAAAS Conference in Houston, TX, 2002. ( NAAAS is the National Association of African American Studies and Affiliates.) In coordination with my presentation, entitled Involving the Audience in Autobiographical Storytelling, she performed The Story of Josephine Baker, which she has written and produced.

Ms. Pointer was recently a guest artist in the Austin Singers' Concert, Soulsongs to Celebrate Black History. During the concert, Christine Pointer sang with the choral ensemble and performed in African garments  the Langston Hughes' poem, Negro. Following the concert, the director of the Austin Singers invited Ms. Pointer to join the choral ensemble as a regular vocalist.

Most recently Christine performed Langston Hughes poetry
for a technology fair via videoconferencing equipment and for a Texas Nafas, television documentary on performances of great poetry. She performed, as well, at a Texas Nafas dinner in Austin, TX. Whenever and wherever she performs, her audiences are stunned and enthralled by her powerful, dynamic performances, as she has exceptional power and talent.

Sincerely,

Diane Howard, Ph.D.
