
Christine Pointer graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with double majors in performance studies and mass communication/journalism and a minor in drama with a music emphasis. Ms. Pointer has been active as a performer of music, poetry, and drama for stage, television, and educational videoconferencing and videostreaming. In performance research work, she has performed African American poetry via the BellNet videoconferencing system. She has written, produced, and performed solo, autobiographical stories of such figures as Dorothy Dandridge and Josephine Baker for on-site and distance performances. She is listed in Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges.
Ms. Pointer has been regularly seen on the Christian television station, KPLE, out of Killeen, TX. She has been seen in UMHB television commercials. Known as a dynamic and beautiful performer/singer, she has been an award-winning dancer and choreographer with lyric and liturgical movement. She has been active as a presenter and performer via television, videconferencing, videostreaming, and webcasting. Ms. Pointer has presented for International NAAAS Conferences in Houston, TX. (NAAAS is the National Association of African American Studies and Affiliates.) At NAAAS meetings, Christine has performed The Story of Josephine Baker, which she wrote and produced, and presented sample techniques for Effective Presentations via Distance Technologies. Christine has been popular as a performer of African American poetry for the Austin, Texas television program, Texas Nafas and for the Austin Singers.
In 2003, Christine Pointer received five first place gold medals and one second place silver medal as a solo artist in the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition. She has been is the first veteran in the history of the Temple VA to receive multiple awards in several different categories. She was selected and invited by the committee in the third and final level of judging to perform as a soloist in the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival show.
Following a competitions with about 3,000 artistic veterans from over
100 Veterans Affairs locations, the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival
awarded Christine Pointer with top honors in music, dance, and drama. The veterans
festival also selected Ms. Pointer to go to Oklahoma City this
fall along with other gold medal winners to perform in a veterans'
production. It is to showcase veterans' talents in art, music, drama and
dance at the Rose State Performing Arts Theater. This event has
been supported
and sponsored by The Department of Veterans Affairs and the American Legion Auxiliary
to enable veterans to share and express their creative talents.
With Artists-For-Hire through the Cultural
Activities Center of Temple, Texas, Ms. Pointer has provided programs to mentor and
educate students in arts of performance communication. Through her workshops teachers and
students have learned about the performance of poetry, history, autobiography, literature,
storytelling, creative writing and how to present effectively via videoconferencing. Her
programming has been interactive with music, dance, drama, improvisation, skits, audience
participation, and has afforded audiences opportunities to share their talents.
Christine Pointer has been an instructor at Central Texas College, where she has taught Liberal
Arts and Focus on You, continuing education classes. This program has
been in the community learning center that offers CEUs and non-credit courses
for learning and personal development.
In March 2004, Ms. Pointer performed for the American Legion Auxiliary Convention in Washington D.C. ALA groups were there from around the world. She was invited to dance. Further, she competed in the 2004 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival in Miami. She entered the drama, music, and dance divisions. She placed in each one. She earned six 1st place awards and one 2nd place award. She passed two more levels of judging and was selected to perform in Salt Lake City, Utah, Oct. 10-16, in a professional Veterans' show.
In 2005, National Veterans Creative Arts Festival Christine was honored for the following: Drama Division - 2nd place for Solo Dramatic Poetry; Creative Writing Division - 2nd place for Patriotic Poetry; Music Division - 2nd place for Vocal Solo Jazz/Rhythm & Blues, Vocal Solo Song w/movement and Vocal Group comedy; Dance Division - 1st place for Solo Interpretive Movement and 3rd place for Liturgical Dance. In the summer of 2005, she was selected as a veteran performer to go to Denver, Colorado for a week to be in a professional production. She performed the song "Orange Colored Sky," as well as participated in other production numbers.
Ms. Pointer has been invited to be profiled as part of the American Veteran's story on the VA's Creative Arts Festival. She has been sought for an interview on camera, filming of her rehearsing, and coverage of her performing. The American Veteran, a new, monthly, half-hour, video news magazine has been designed to inform veterans, their families, and their communities about the services and benefits they have earned through their service to America. It has also been created to recognize and honor that service. The series has been produced by the VA Office of Public Affairs and the VA VALU/EES video production team. It has been broadcast to VA facilities on the VA Knowledge Network and to military personnel and families around the world on The Pentagon Channel. The seminar series has focused on helping African American women to improve their individual beauty, health, fitness and fashion. They have been challenged to improve their spiritual, emotional and physical well-being and to build self-esteem. Attendees have experienced coaching, a forum, and panel discussions with beauty experts. Nutrition guides, health consultants, and fashion designers have given their expertise and contributions to this event to improve the lifestyles of its participants.
In 2006 Christine has graduated from broadcasting school and is currently working on a master's degree in public administration at Nova Southeastern University. Further, she has performed voice-over work with D.E. Visuals and won the following awards with the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival:

She has been invited to sing again at the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival 2006. She is to sing "All I Ask of You," from the Phantom of the Opera. This production is to be televised in South Dakota.

Update- Fall 07
Christine has continued to perform with the Nova Singers. They
performed at Carnegie Hall last year with other choirs and are preparing for
their holiday concert series. She has been working for her County in Florida and
on her master's degree in Public Administration. She performed in St. Louis,
MO, in the 2007 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. This production was
aired through PBS on KNCT-TV on November 10th. It also aired at various PBS
stations and times across the nation. The group that Christine performed with in
St. Louis was invited to attend a conference as honored guests to go on a
cruise to Nassau, Bahamas to talk about the benefits of creative arts therapies
(in music, art, dance, creative writing & drama). Christine has been performing
since 2003 with many talented veterans from around the world.
Update Fall 08
Since 2003,
Christine has been performing with the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival
in professional productions with veterans across the nation. Many of these
veterans have numerous challenges, yet they grace the stage each year sharing
their amazing talents with the world through creative arts, which is therapeutic
for them.
This year Ms. Pointer performed for the NVCAF 2008 stage show at the Riverside
Convention Center, Ontario, CA. Bo Derek and John Corbett were the mistress and
master of ceremony. Christine did an interpretive dance in the show to "I
Pledge My Allegiance," by the Gaither Vocal Band, as well as sang in production
numbers with the choir and ensemble. She was Queen Cleopatra in the opening of
the show for the Hollywood scene. She wore an elaborate gold and black costume
with headdress, cape, neck piece and snake bracelet. The show is to be aired on
PBS.
This Nov. she
heads for Orlando with one of her veteran performance partners from their group
"Voices From Home." They are to to put on a 45-minute show for one of their
sponsors (American Legion Auxiliary) of the NVCAF.
